BYRD is the support center for early-career researchers at the University of Bremen. We are the central contact point for doctoral candidates, post-docs as well as established researchers seeking information and support for further training, networking, and consulting.

As an early-career researcher, you can choose from our wide range of free BYRD workshops. On our web pages, we have also bundled the offers of other university-wide providers.

Consultation and Networking

BYRD advises doctoral candidates on questions surrounding doctoral studies and processes. We support academic and personal exchange through various networking formats.

Consultation and Networking for Postdocs

BYRD also offers postdocs and advanced researchers advice on postdoctoral studies and career options both within as well as outside the scientific community. We inform about training measures and develop formats for networking.

The Latest Info

Our online series for doctoral supervisors at the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen combines expert input with opportunities for collegial exchange among professors about supervision practices in different research areas. Register now for the entire series or individual modules - two of them in English.

Funding Opportunities

Doctoral researchers of the University of Bremen can apply for funding for one- to three-month stays at universities and research institutions abroad. These must be related to the candidate’s doctoral project.

Doctoral researchers can apply for support of activities that clearly contribute an added value within the context of their PhD, such as participation in summer schools, research sojourns at renowned institutions, additional experiments, interdisciplinary projects or international cooperations.

Postdocs can apply for supplementary funding of research projects in order to prepare applications for third-party funding, to set up conferences in Bremen or to undertake interdisciplinary research. As an added incentive for researchers, grants are available in particular for the preparation of first applications for DFG funding as well as cooperations with scientists at the University of Oldenburg.
