SOCIUM: New DVPW Executive Board Elected
Prof. Markus Tepe has been re-elected as Vice Chair of the German Political Science Association (DVPW). The German Political Science Association is the largest professional organization for political science with currently over 2,000 members. Markus Tepe, who has been Professor of Political Science at SOCIUM since October 2023, previously served as Vice Chair of the association in the outgoing board (2021-2024). [27.11.2024]

Nils C. Kumkar will be one of 14 distinguished individuals from science and culture working on the theme "Across Boundaries" at the Thomas Mann House in Los Angeles in 2025. From January to March, he will conduct research on conspiracy theories and their influence on how society processes the presidential election. DIFIS organizes an annual major conference, the FIS Forum, as a meeting point for social policy research, practice, and politics. Every two years, it is combined with an international conference, the Social Policy Biennale. In 2024, both events focused on the theme "Lost in Social Policy? Research for Integrated Social Policy". Throughout 2024, DIFIS organized several workshops and digital discussion rounds on the topic complex of fragmentation of social policy - digitalization - citizen-oriented social policy, and published numerous DIFIS studies and DIFIS impulses. Two SOCIUM researchers, Sebastian Haunss and Sophia Hunger, have secured funding for a three-year project under the EU Horizon 2024 framework titled "Protest Culture under Transformation and as a Transformative Power" (ProTest). The project, which will begin on January 1st, 2025, also includes Heiko Pleines from the Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen. moreDIFIS: Climate Transfer and Eco-social Transformation
In 2024, two out of six research fields focused intensively on integrating social and climate policy. Alternative designs for climate money payments and alternatives to climate money were discussed with members of the German Parliament (Bundestag), based on experiments and concepts of eco-social transformation. Together with the German Centre of Gerontology (DZA), DIFIS explored the topic "Climate Crisis - Generational Conflict or New Solidarity between Old and Young?" in a hot topic event (digital discussion round on current issues).
