The SZHB turns 30 this year!
2025 is an anniversary year
This year, the Language Center of the Universities in Bremen is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
We will be celebrating this with various large and small events at all partner universities, with various cooperation partners, and throughout the year.
An overview of the various events will be available here shortly.

In 2025, the Language Center of the Universities in the Land of Bremen celebrated its 30th anniversary, which was marked by various events throughout the year. In the run-up to the anniversary, we asked our teachers, former and current colleagues at the SZHB, and our cooperation partners to send us recipes for publication, whereby we deliberately used the term “recipe” in a broad sense. Fortunately, many responded to this call, and the result is a diverse and colorful collection of recipes that not only beautifully reflects the diverse composition of our team, but also offers great inspiration for cooking, learning, baking, smiling ...

Sprachenwoche der Hochschule Bremerhaven und das Sprachenzentrum der Hochschulen im Land Bremen

Die Hochschule Bremerhaven und das Sprachenzentrum der Hochschulen im Land Bremen laden gemeinsam zur Sprachenwoche vom 22. bis 26. September, jeweils von 18 bis 19 Uhr, ins Cruise Lab der Hochschule (Haus S, Raum 102, Eingang an der Columbusstra?e) ein. Bei kurzen Vortr?gen k?nnen alle Interessierten in Bengali, Deutsche Geb?rdensprache, Franz?sisch und Arabisch hineinschnuppern. Passend zum Europ?ischen Tag der Sprachen am Freitag, den 26. September, spricht Dr. phil. Anne Gadow von der Universit?t Bremen über Mehrsprachigkeit in Bildungseinrichtungen. Die Teilnahme ist kostenfrei.
Dass Sprache nicht nur als Barriere zu sehen ist, sondern die Vielfalt auch Chancen mit sich bringt, soll die Sprachenwoche zeigen. Bei der Organisation haben das Zentrum für Chancengerechtigkeit und Diversity der Hochschule Bremerhaven, die studentische Initiative InkluZone sowie das Sprachenzentrum der Hochschulen im Land Bremen eng zusammengearbeitet und gemeinsam mit Expert:innen und Studierenden die kurzen Schnupperangebote entwickelt. On June 26, 2025, the ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Language Center of the Universities in the Land of Bremen (SZHB) will take place. We will celebrate this special occasion together with guests from politics, science, and higher education.
After welcoming remarks by Kathrin Moosdorf (Senator for Environment, Climate, and Science), Dr. Mandy Boehnke (Vice President of the University of Bremen), and Dr. Astrid Buschmann-G?bels (Deputy Director of the SZHB), there will be a musical performance by the duo Yaku from the University of the Arts.
A special highlight of the program is the panel discussion on the topic
“Language learning in higher education contexts – past, present, and future”,
which will include representatives from the Language Center and students.
The event will conclude with a reception with drinks and light refreshments starting at 7:00 p.m.

Event details:
We are kicking off our anniversary year with a joint event on Saturday, May 24, 2025, together with the Bremen cultural institutes and the Bremen City Library. In collaboration, we will offer a range of activities for anyone interested in language learning and language fun. There will be workshops, picture book cinemas, language cafés, access to resources, a green screen with a photo campaign, an English quiz, and other playful activities for young and old.
We look forward to seeing you at the activity area, in the crime library, and on the pirate ship!

On June 21, Prof. Dr. Claudia Harsch, Director of the SZHB, will speak as part of the “Wissen um 11” series at tHaus der Wissenschaft in downtown Bremen. The topic of her lecture is “Is my B1 your B1? Or what it means to be at language level B1” and is aimed at the interested public.
