Project Description:

In KEROSyN100, a process layout for the first power-to-jet fuel plant in a commercial demonstration environment will be developed. The conceptual design will cover the performance of high system services and the utilization of 100 % renewable energies. Thus, a dynamic production of green jet fuel will raise the share of renewable energy in aviation and at the same time decrease the curtailment of renewable electricity.

The joining of systems analyses and the design of innovative technologies for the synthesis of kerosene from methanol facilitates the development of a tailored Basic Engineering for a P2J fuel plant in Heide.
So far, the aviation sector lacks alternatives to fossil fuels. Hence, synthetic jet fuel based on renewable energy is considered as a promising technology to successfully decarbonize the whole sector. A multi-criteria assessment of relevant process chains, technological improvements of the key technology methanol-to-jet fuel, the analysis of appropriate regulations and the realization of a first plant will lead to a market integration of electricity based, synthetic jet fuel.

Furthermore, the project integrates the fuel plant in Heide with a conventional oil refinery whilst conducting an analysis of the Energy System and offering suggestions for an appropriate regulatory framing. The conclusions are to be implemented and realized in a second project phase.
