More Than Our Rank

The “More than our Rank” initiative offers the opportunity to make the diversity and complexity of university achievements more visible. We support this concept, are pleased to have the opportunity to present our university’s strengths and unique features here, and are thus able to demonstrate that the University of Bremen is so much more than just its position in rankings:
We see sustainability as our fundamental guiding principle
- In line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, we are committed to social change that recognizes the equal value of social and ecological aspects, which should not be offset against economic considerations.
We are a globally connected university
- We offer students and university staff worldwide opportunities to develop and network in education, research and careers through our wide range of international partnerships and collaborations. At a European level, we are part of the YUFE Alliance (Young Universities for the Future of Europe), where we are working together to build an open, inclusive and participatory European university.
We are keen to experiment and strong in research
- Building on our broad range of subjects, we have established five research-intensive, interdisciplinary scientific focal points. Here, scientists in Bremen are looking for answers to today's pressing societal questions: The oceans and the global climate, the future of industrial production, the social conflicts of modern welfare states, the interfaces between digital technology and people, and justice in healthcare.
We research, teach and learn together
- We are a university of research-based learning and our teaching is designed to foster critical engagement with scientific material. We motivate students to relate this content to their own working environment and enable them to apply what they have learned in practice.
We work cooperatively, transfer-oriented and interdisciplinary
- We collaborate with our partners in society, business and politics in a variety of creative ways, making significant contributions to the development and implementation of technological and social innovations.
We are world champions
- The University of Bremen's B-Human team has already won the RoboCup soccer world championship title eleven times. The competition aims to promote the development of robots and their artificial intelligence so that they can operate without direct human control.
We are open
- “Open since 1971”.
- We are committed to our shared responsibility for the social and ecological changes needed worldwide to promote democracy, diversity and justice.
- With “Open Science”, we are pursuing the goal of promoting openness in science, making it the standard for the research information we use and produce.
- We welcome people to our campus by living the motto “Come as you are”.
