WHY is the Centre for Artists’ Publications writing art history?

HERE’S WHY – With more than 300,000 published and reproduced artworks by more than 12,000 artists from around the world, the Centre for Artists’ Publications houses an art collection that is unique in Europe – including artists’ stamps, artists’ books, films, artists’ records, and radio art. They form an international network that transcends political divides and reflects their creators’ artistic and societal notions of freedom, eradication of hierarchies, and democratization. Artists’ publications represent an alternative art history after World War II.

WHY is there a bit of the University of Bremen in the Centre for Artists’ Publications?

HERE’S WHY – The University of Bremen and the Weserburg Museum of Modern Art worked together to acquire the Archive for Small Press & Communication in 1999 as the first collection, facilitating the founding of the Centre for Artists’ Publications. The University of Bremen remains an institutional sponsor and partner in research, exhibitions, communication, and teaching.
