Ethics Committee at Department 07

Ethics Committee at Department 07

In consultation with the Ethics Committee of the University of Bremen, Department 07 has introduced a simplified ethics procedure for research projects with minimal risk. The Ethics Committee, elected by the Department Council, reviews the submitted short applications and recommends a positive vote to the Ethics Committee in cases of minimal risk. The basis for this is the revised version of the University of Bremen's ethics regulations, which was adopted on May 14, 2025.

Short application procedure for research projects with minimal risk

The short application procedure was developed to meet the needs of researchers at FB07. As more and more peer-reviewed journals and research funding agencies require a positive ethics vote even for ethically uncontroversial projects, the volume of applications is increasing to such an extent that a central ethics committee alone cannot cope. The waiting times for applicants would be disproportionately long, leading to competitive disadvantages in research.

The abbreviated procedure is available to researchers in Department 07 for research projects that are expected to pose minimal risk to all parties involved but still require an ethics vote. The abbreviated procedure allows ethically uncontroversial research projects to be processed more quickly while maintaining ethical standards.

How to submit a short application
