Professor Dr. Norbert Schaffeld
Norbert Schaffeld studied English and North American Literature, History, Philosophy, and Pedagogy at the Universities of Wuppertal and Exeter. It was also at the University of Wuppertal that he completed his PhD thesis as well as his postdoctoral thesis.
Norbert Schaffeld is emeritus professor and former chair of English Literature and Culture at the University of Bremen. He previously taught at the universities of Wuppertal, Essen, Leipzig, and Jena. He also conducted research at Australian and Canadian universities, including: The University of Sydney, The University of Toronto, and The University of Guelph.
His main fields of research are Shakespeare adaptations, film studies, STEM films and TV series, the science novel, and coastal cultures. He was one of the directors of the interdisciplinary research project Fiction Meets Science (FMS), the proposals of which were accepted by the VW Funding Initiative Key Issues for Research and Society in 2013 and 2017. He is now a member of its follow-up unit, the FMS Study Group at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, the Institute for Advanced Study in Delmenhorst, and the Blue Humanities Research Group at the University of Bremen.
