The DSC supports a research stay at the Data Science Institute at Columbia University

The award of this DSC Seed Grant supports the establishment of international collaborations between researchers at the University of Bremen and Columbia University in New York City. The goal is to work on joint research projects in the emerging field of learning-augmented algorithm design.

Data Train 2024 Kick-off Event

On January 17, this year’s kick-off event for Data Train – the cross-disciplinary training programm for doctoral researchers of the U Bremen Research Alliance – took place at the Fraunhofer IFAM. Together with Tanja H?rner, DSC coordinator Lena Steinmann also presented DataNord on this occasion.

The DSC continues nationwide network initiative

Last September, the DSC, together with partner institutions, hosted the first Data-Science-Community Workshop at INFORMATIK 2023. The event laid the foundation for the establishment of a network between different data-science-initiatives. On January 15, the second community meeting took place.

Kick-Off Event DataNord

On November 24th, 2023, the kick-off event for Data Nord - the interdisciplinary data competence centre for the Bremen region - took place. Professor Dr. Jutta Günther, President of the University of Bremen and Chair Person of the U Bremen Research Alliance welcomed numerous participants.


DSC article published in the proceedings of the E-Science-Days 2023

The E-Science-Days took place in Heidelberg at the beginning of March this year. The articles have now been published in the conference proceedings. Included is an article under the lead of our coordinator Lena Steinmann on the role of the DSC as an interdisciplinary hub for data-intensive research.

Christopher Metz is co-organiser of the “6th Workshop on Parallel AI and Systems for the Edge (PAISE)”

As the Publicity Chair, Christopher Metz, our research associate, is co-organizing the PAISE 2024 workshop. It will take place in May 2024 as part of the 38th IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium.

The DSC supports the creation of a news page dataset

The project aims at building the first, detailed dataset of unreliable news sites in German-speaking regions. The dataset will be used to develop software that informs internet users about problematic news websites.

The EU project AI4Ed explores the future of education in Lisbon – DSC supports third joint project meeting

Held on 7 and 8 November, the meeting served as a platform for the six partner organizations to delve into the project's progress and set the course for the future of education. Our data steward Heike Th?richt supported the meeting with her expertise in making the project’s data FAIR.

DataNord: A Data Competence Center for the Bremen Region

The University of Bremen, in close collaboration with the U Bremen Research Alliance and other partners, is establishing a data competence center for the entire region. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is supporting the establishment of the center with over 3.5 million euros.
