Guidance on dealing with right-wing hostility towards science

The research association “GERDEA” and the “Federal Association for Mobile Counseling” have published guidelines on “Dealing with right-wing hostility towards science.”

For about ten years now, the far right has been increasingly mobilizing against academia in order to shift debates to the right and spread its ideas outside political institutions. Among other things, researchers and teachers who address gender relations, racism, the continuing colonial past, and right-wing extremism itself are being targeted. Topics such as man-made climate change and the search for truth through open examination also seem to be a thorn in their side.

The attacks on universities are not only directed against individuals, but above all against the idea of open, critical, and democratic science itself.

GERDEA and the Federal Association for Mobile Counseling want to offer practical assistance with this policy paper. Whether for people who are confronted with right-wing attacks for the first time, who have been repeatedly affected because of their research results, or people who want to stand up for democracy and against right-wing extremism, racism, anti-Semitism, anti-feminism, and other ideas of inequality.
