Thermal insulation panels made of cellulose-based waste material
The aim of the project is to develop an ecological thermal insulation board made from renewable raw materials with a significantly more positive ecological balance compared to conventional EPS materials (expanded polystyrene). Paper dust, which is a residual material from waste paper recycling, is used as the base material. The paper fibers in paper dust are far too short to be reused by the paper industry for material recycling.
Examples of applications for the innovative insulation boards include use as thermal insulation in the construction industry or as recyclable insulated packaging for the transport of refrigerated goods. This upcycled product itself is recyclable and offers an ecologically sound alternative to commercial insulation materials. In addition, the paper board contributes to reducing CO2 emissions, as these emissions are stored in the insulation.
