    Study the earth system

    and the relationships between earth system components.

The focus of the environmental physics program at the University of Bremen lies on earth system sciences. Students learn to understand the complex relationships between atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, solid earth and climate. Two of the leading research institutions in the field of environmental research in Germany, the Institute for Environmental Physics (IUP) of the University of Bremen and the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz-Center for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven (AWI), are jointly undertaking the further development, organization and teaching of the study program. Students are actively involved in education and research in both institutions.

First + second semester:

  • Basics in Environmental Physics

  • Theoretical Basics

  • Experimental Techniques (including lab work)

Third + fourth semester:

  • Courses in Advanced Environmental Physics

  • Presentation techniques

  • Research in Environmental Physics (project)

  • Master’s Thesis incl. colloquium

Key data

  • Admission requirements:
    - First B.Sc. / academic degree (3 to 4 year course) in physics or mathematics
      (min. 180 CP)
    - Thereof 90 CP in Physics
    - English language skills at least level C1 (CEFR)
    - Letter of motivation

  • Application deadline: July 15

  • Beginning of the course: once a year at winter semester

  • Application deadline 2nd semester (advanced students only): January 15

  • Language of instruction: English

  • ECTS credits: 120

  • Semester dues including semester ticket
