Internationalizing University Education
Giving international perspectives on difference and inequality in different education systems more space in teaching means, on the one hand, expanding knowledge of different school and education systems in the context of diversity. On the other hand, it favours a broadening of perspective, a questioning of what ‘normality’ means for each individual.
Jointly developed pedagogical core questions show relevance across different systems and they become clearer with regard to the different ways of dealing with the different educational systems.
Over the past two years, various international cooperation formats have increasingly added international comparative perspectives to courses. There are already a large number of international elements in teaching and more are being planned.
International Teaching Week 2024
In the summer semester 2024, a one-week International Teaching Week (ITW) took place in the Department of Pedagogy and Educational Sciences. With a large number of lectures in English and the involvement of guest lecturers from various locations, a range of courses was created with a focus on international comparative perspectives, which, in the spirit of internationalisation, provides student teachers with low-threshold access to international study content and contacts.
Cross-location co-operation seminar on school practice reflection (Vienna - Bremen)
In collaboration with the University of Vienna, we are developing a cross-location cooperation seminar on practice reflection. The seminar, which offers students the opportunity to reflect on their own perspectives and practical experiences in a comparative manner (online, short attendance components), even beyond longer stays abroad, is to be trialled in a first run in the winter semester 2023/24.
Partial seminar cooperation
Co-operation formats in which Bremen seminars take place together with seminars from the co-operating universities partly are currently being developed.
Virtual guest participation in individual sessions
In recent years, lecturers from the cooperation network have regularly taken part in each other's seminars, e.g. in the form of guest lectures and workshop formats.
