Committees and Student Counseling

The Master’s program in Urban and Regional Development is a joint program offered by the disciplines of Geography and Sociology. The Institute of Geography has been entrusted by the Faculty of Social Sciences with the administration of the program. Therefore, the committees of the Institute of Geography are also responsible for students of the Master’s program in Urban and Regional Development.

Institutsrat

Institute Council (Der Institutsrat (IR)) is the central advisory body of the Institute. It is represented externally by the Institute’s spokesperson. In addition to the managing director, the IR includes all professors as well as one representative each of the academic staff, non-academic staff, and one student.

The Student Committee (StugA) of Geography represents the interests of all students at the Institute of Geography, including those enrolled in the Master’s program in Urban and Regional Development. We encourage you to get involved and represent your interests.

Studienkommission

The Study Commission (Die Studienkommission (SK)) plans the medium-term course offerings and advises the Faculty Council on matters related to examination and study regulations. It contributes to the further development of the curriculum and submits recommendations to the Institute Council and the Dean of Studies.

It also serves as a point of contact for students’ concerns and suggestions regarding teaching. The SK consists of elected representatives from different academic status groups as well as three students. Student representatives are elected by the Faculty Council each year following the committee elections in the summer semester. We warmly welcome your participation.

Masterprüfungsausschuss

The Examination Board (Der Prüfungsausschuss (MPA)) is responsible for ensuring the proper conduct of examinations and compliance with examination regulations. It also decides on appeals related to examination procedures.The board consists of three professors, one member of the academic staff, and one student. The student representative is elected by the Faculty Council after the committee elections in the summer semester.The contact person for the recognition of examination achievements is the recognition officer appointed by the Examination Board.

Auswahlkommission

The Selection Committee (Die Auswahlkommission) for the Master’s program in Urban and Regional Development is responsible for the admission process of applicants. It consists of three professors, one academic staff member, and one student. The student representative is elected by the Faculty Council following the committee elections in the summer semester.
