Lightweight and material-driven product development
Integrated product development
Institute and Research Group
The Institute for Integrated Product Development (BIK) is an engineering institute and is affiliated to the Department of Production Engineering -Mechanical and Process Engineering- at the University of Bremen through the Research Group of Integrated Product Development.
In the field of research, experimental and theoretical work is carried out with a thematic focus on product development, in particular in the following areas
- Lightweight and material-driven product development,
- load- and structure-driven product development,
- and process-driven product development.
Various laboratories are also operated at the BIK.
The department teaches in the areas of methodical and systematic product development and we are represented with various courses in the Systems Engineering, Production Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management Production Engineering degree programs. In line with the thematic focus, the portfolio includes topics such as engineering drawing, machine elements, design engineering and virtual product development tools (CAx).
In addition to interdisciplinary aspects of product development, such as end-to-end product data management or issues relating to material behavior, manufacturing processes and the use of resources, the focus is on the product life cycle (PDM/PLM).
