Alumni of the University of Bremen – Acting Together for the University and Its Alumni
The University of Bremen is a young institution: in 2021, it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Despite its relatively short history, students, staff, and researchers have played a major role over the past decades in shaping the university into what it is today.
The associated alumni association of the University of Bremen was founded much later, in 2006 – originally under the name Community Bremen. This marked the transformation of a loose network of former students and staff into a true community. Since then, alumni have been actively involved on the board, working to keep the founding spirit alive and strengthen the connection to the university.

"The alumni network has great potential. We want to develop it to the maximum benefit of the university and the alumni. Our vision is to create a global networking of alumni which allows every member optimum contact. Alumni profit from the university's reputation and the university benefits from the alumni's loyalty."
- Dr. Tim Nesemann, Chairman of the Board
A Wide Range of Opportunities
The association currently has around 4,500 members. These are people who spent a significant phase of their lives at the University of Bremen and feel connected to the university, its history, and its values. The alumni association offers an opportunity to give back: each year, it supports the university and its students with several tens of thousands of euros. This support spans a wide range—from cultural and scientific projects to scholarships. To promote the activities of the University of Bremen, only modest membership fees are charged. These contributions also make it possible to award prizes for outstanding academic achievements.
The University of Bremen is part of a large national and international network, and the alumni contribute to strengthening this network. The focus is on exchange and connection. The goal is to expand this network even further and to strengthen the bonds within it. A regularly published newsletter keeps members informed about the association's activities as well as current developments at the university and in Bremen's research community. Local events provide opportunities to build connections—including through mentoring programs and career support. The focus here is on knowledge transfer and assistance in starting a professional career.
