Five specialised institutes within the faculty 08 combine excellent research with topical degree programmes.
The Institute of Geography is characterised by its wide disciplinary scope. Five professorships from both parts of geography cover topics from climate research to urban geography. More than 700 students take part in four bachelor and two master programmes.
Teaching and research in history at the University of Bremen takes place in the different research groups of the department. Next to the classical epochs of ancient history, the Middle Ages, early modern and contemporary history, the field of history didactics are represented.
The Institute of Political Science organises the whole teaching programme in political sciences, drawing on the research strength of its faculty. Its different bachelor and master programmes give a solid training, covering the full breadth of political science, including a manifold offer of elective courses. Research in political science is organised in dedicated research institutes.
The Institute of Sociology is among the recognised teaching programmes in Germany and has been formative in German sociology for years. The courses on offer provide for a broad and demanding training.
Integrated European Studies offer an interdisciplinary BA programme that focuses on European transformations before and after 1989 in the context of social science and cultural studies.
