a) Analysis of fictional and non-fictional text types (historical periodicals, including ethnographic and ethnological orientation; travel literature; novels; theoretical writings) of historical and modern origin from the German and Francophone language areas using various approaches in literary and cultural studies (e.g. methods of text analysis such as close reading; methods of discourse analysis; theories of knowledge and culture transfer; methods and concepts of postcolonial theories; decolonial and decolonization perspectives).

b) Cultural history of travel / travel cultures; German and French colonialism; history of the concept of race; racial theories and racism; women's stories / women's movements in Africa and Europe using various approaches.
