Our Program

Kachel

The Master‘s program in Transcultural Studies consists of 11 modules which can be managed in two years. The courses do not have to be taken consecutively but the following order is highly recommended:

Year one introduces students to theoretical dimensions of Transcultural Studies in various disciplines whilst allowing them to develop and test out transcultural skills in practice. In the second semester students begin to work with qualitative research methods. As a MATS student you will use ethnography for your own empirical research project and hermeneutic text analysis in order to broaden your interpretative skills from a postcolonial perspective. In the second year of study you choose your own areas of focus and deepen your understanding of specific transcultural phenomena in trans- and interdisicplinary fashion in active preparation for the MA thesis. Internships or studying abroad are individual options that may to be taken in year two.
