Introduction

Teddy van Eikeren has been a researcher at LEMEX - Chair in Small Business & Entrepreneurship at the University of Bremen since October 2025. He founded and leads the area of “Affect in Entrepreneurship,” with a focus on mental health and well-being as core entrepreneurial outcomes.

His core research areas include:

  • Entrepreneurial well-being (How does starting a business affect hedonic and eudaimonic well-being?)
  • Entrepreneurial mental health (How do entrepreneurship and mental health influence each other?)
  • Recovery dynamics (How can founders recover effectively and efficiently?)
  • Interventions (How can practical interventions be designed in the context of well-being and mental health?)
  • Meditation-based interventions in entrepreneurship (How does meditation affect founders?)

In addition, Teddy’s research interests include:

  • Decision-making
  • The influence of affect (emotions) on entrepreneurship
  • The “people side of entrepreneurship”

Teddy brings eight years of start-up experience from the United States, Canada, and Germany. Among other roles, he was responsible as a founder for the business development of a chemistry and AI start-up. Since 2022, he applied his expertise as a trainer and coach, working primarily with Series B start-ups on issues related to well-being, strategic clarity, and team dynamics.

He also teaches decision-making, self-management, resilience, and entrepreneurship at universities in Bremen, Bremerhaven, and Hanover. Academically, Teddy studied public policy with a focus on entrepreneurship and negotiation at Harvard University and earned a bachelor’s degree in business chemistry from the University of Düsseldorf. Alongside his PhD, he continues his education through selected psychology courses.

Outside of work, he can most often be found hiking in the mountains, traveling in a camper van, or visiting planetariums across Germany, where he creates a unique space for calm and reflection through his “Meditation under the Stars.”

Students who are interested in writing a thesis in entrepreneurship with a focus on psychological topics are warmly invited to get in touch with him. He also welcomes everyone to approach him who shares his intrinsic interest in shaping entrepreneurial ecosystems in a human-centered way.
