Video 2 - Hochleistungsorganismus Boden
Based on long-term ecosystem research, soil ecology and ecological theory we are working on sustainable solutions for a healthy environment. Main research areas are prospective environmental hazard assessment, interactions between primary producers and soil animals and their impact on carbon cycling. At present, major research topics involve projects on the impact of engineered nanomaterials on the environment and the application of biochar for improving soil fertility and soil health. Additionally, emphasis is given on critical assessment of standardised testing procedures for assessing environmental effects of nanomaterials.

03.03.2025: Soil ecology continues! We are extremely happy to learn that Dr. Borbála Szabó, who stayed with us between 2022 and 2024 via a Humboldt scholarship, will continue her career with Senckenberg G?rlitz. From May onwards, she will work in an exciting 3-year project entitled "Trends in hidden taxa and habitats – understanding the extent and impact of the biodiversity crisis (TrenDiv)".
25.02.25: Recently published: A hidden artefact: how surfactants can distort the results of springtail reproduction tests
16.01.2025: Congratulations!!! Today, Olivia Roithmeier successfully defended her doctoral thesis on "Effects of pyrolytic biochar on soil properties, Collembola, mites and seed performance". We are happy that now she can fully concentrate on protecting soils in her important job at the Federal Envionmental Agency - and spend more time with her family.
02.12.2024: Oh Happy Day! We just learned that Jonas Fischer's DFG proposal will be granted! So, next to his own position (which will be funded through other sources) he will have a PhD student and ample resources to study f for three years in Christina Roggatz' group “Radical formation by copper application in agriculturally relevant clay-rich soils and its ecotoxicological consequences”. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
