Research field 2: Behavioral Economics
The research questions of experimental economics are fascinating and allow academics and interested lay people to wonder at human reasoning and mental abbreviations. Experimental research investigates the market behavior of different actors, their decision-making behavior under risk and uncertainty, as well as strategic behavior in the present and over time. Research topics at the University of Bremen include fraud, investment decisions, health decisions and the behavior on digital platforms.
Economic experiments are characterized by the fact that participants usually receive a monetary remuneration. In addition, the experimenter will provide you with a comprehensive description of the experimental design in advance. In other words, participants know that they are not being manipulated in a covert way (no cheating policy). In particular, the monetary compensation serves to identify the revealed preferences of the subjects, rather than merely stated preferences, such as those found in surveys.
