Revise, Rewrite, Review: How to edit your academic texts as a non-native speaker
Course 2024-41
Date: 11 December 2024, 9:00 - 16:00 h
Venue: SFG 1060
Trainer: Katrina Stollmann, Writing consultant (Sprachenzentrum Bremen)
Description
Take your research writing the extra mile - acquire new editing skills and proofreading strategies to improve your paper's style, cohesion, clarity and punctuation. This workshop will provide you with input on how to better prepare your paper for publication or peer-review.
We will make use of digital materials, handouts and exercises. The workshop will take place in a classroom environment on campus and include interactive group activities that will augment the trainer’s input.
In the last phase of the workshop, you will be invited to take part in a brief one-on-one consultation with the trainer. This consultation offers you the chance to look more closely at your own writing from a linguistic perspective and get suggestions on how to continue the process of becoming a better proof-reader and writer.
You are most welcome – indeed encouraged – to bring along samples of your own academic writing in English. These need not be polished excerpts or whole texts; works in progress are just as welcome, and sometimes even better suited for trying out new strategies.
