Design of a universal and broadband UV(-IR) gas sensor
The increasing pollution of the atmosphere requires precise control of environmentally harmful gases. These have characteristic absorption lines, particularly in the deep UV (DUV). The design of a universal and broadband UV(-IR) gas sensor system based on low-cost LEDs is intended to enable the early identification of toxic trace gases in the atmosphere.
To this end, a correspondingly broadband light source is to be developed that enables the recording of absorption spectra in a wide spectral range, whereby the simultaneous detection at several wavelengths and the use of evaluation software from the field of artificial intelligence will eliminate the cross-sensitivities that have been problematic to date.
The aim of the project is to develop spectrally broadband UV-IR absorption spectroscopy for the highly sensitive simultaneous detection of climate and environmentally relevant gases such as methane, hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ammonia, ozone, volatile organic compounds and various aromatic compounds while at the same time preventing cross-sensitivities.
