A transfer of descriptors evaluated on micro samples to material properties requires correlations of the predictor function at certain support points. This requires micro and macro samples with a comparable microstructure which are then used to evualuate descriptors on the micro and macro scale as well as material properties such as tensile strength on the macro scale. The knowledge of those allows the definition of the predictor function by heuristic search methods. For this purpose three different macro samples are intended:

  • Spray deposition with rapid solidification of the samples from the same melt of which the micro sampels are synthesized. Spray deposition and droplet formation are related processes, which supports the assumption of a transferability from micro to macro samples (S01)
  • RAP process for macro samples (S02) as a conventional casting technique
  • Commercial aquisition of conventional alloys as a reference for the transferabiity to commercial primary shaping techniques

According to the treatment of micro samples the produced samples undergo heat treatment of which thermal process models (S03) are designed to specify defined parameters for the synthesis and heat treatment of macro samples. Again according to the treatment of micro samples the macro samples are mechanically treated by compression and shot peening (U04). The project addresses as well mechanical material properties of the macro samples, which gets inter alia implemented by machining (S04). This serves the purpose of determining the machinability, defined by material properties such as tensile strength, hardness, alloy composition, or heat treatment condition and characterized by specific forces or accomplished surface quality. Analyses are held on scale levels of micro and macro processing.
