This seminar provides an in-depth exploration of key aspects of international business, using an internationally operating firm based in Bremen (referred to as the focal firm) as a real-world case study. The course aims to provide insights into how the focal firm is integrated into global networks and how it navigates the complexities of the international marketplace. Students will work in groups and potential topics include:

  • Country Market Potential: Analyzing the most attractive markets for specific products based on the firm's internationalization history and market conditions.
  • Competitor and Industry Analysis: Assessing key international competitors, industry dynamics, and emerging global trends to identify risks and opportunities.
  • International Regulation and Compliance: Exploring relevant legal frameworks, industry standards, and compliance requirements critical to global logistics operations.
  • Sustainability and Stakeholder Management: Investigating strategies to engage stakeholders and integrate environmental and social considerations into business practices.
  • Global Risk Management: Evaluating major global risks such as policy shifts, transport security, economic fluctuations, and global disruptions, and developing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Internal Resource Planning: Identifying key internal capabilities, addressing capacity constraints, and exploring potential partnerships to support international expansion.

The final selection of topics will depend on the focal firm's current strategic priorities, the number of student groups, and individual preferences. Throughout the seminar, students will apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings through group projects, consulting sessions, and an on-site company visit. The course will culminate in final presentations, assessing both strategic insights and practical applications.

Please note that participation in our Master-level courses is only open to Erasmus students who are registered as Master students in Bremen.

Since many Erasmus students will need to leave Bremen before the usual examination period, we offer a separate examination for Erasmus students on the Bachelor courses. We aim to correct these examinations promptly, but please note that the transfer of grades between your home university and the University of Bremen takes some time. Please be aware of these aspects before writing us. Otherwise, feel free to get in touch with our contact person for Erasmus students.
