Project description:

The research project ViTAWiN - Virtual augmented training for education and training in interprofessional emergency care - is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the framework of the programme Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) in Vocational Education and Training (VRARBB).

In ViTAWiN an interdisciplinary consortium develops, tests and evaluates a multi-user Virtual Reality (VR)- / Augmented Reality (AR)-Simulation Environment. The project addresses the educational needs of teachers and learners in training to become emergency paramedics and further training in emergency care. This enables a broad, user-oriented and sustainable integration of a didactic design into educational practice. The introduction of modern VR and AR technologies should enable a highly interactive, immersive and collaborative training and learning environment. The realistic and spatial 3D representations in VR/AR environments are directly linked to everyday work experience and are thus highly authentic and contextualised. Through the use of technology, practical learning and work experiences for different curricular fields of learning are made possible - according to the educational needs.

Project goals:

The ViTAWiN project aims to develop a haptically augmented virtual multi-user learning and training environment. By innovative augmentation of simulation dolls on dynamically changing, visual representation of all leading symptoms in an existing highly interactive multi-user VR simulation environment, complex, realistic decision situations are to be created. Emergency nurses and rescue personnel could for the first time train occupational skills in a wide variety of scenarios through interprofessional learning and thus optimize the care of a large area of all emergencies.

Advisory board:

Prof. Dr. Vera Hagemann is member of the project advisory board of ViTAWiN. A committee of experts is appointed as advisory board. Over the entire course of the project, this committee reviews the respective progress in five meetings for overriding practicability and expandability to other medical and nursing training professions and seeks interfaces for publication/dissemination of the project contents.
