BYRD is the support center for early-career researchers at the University of Bremen. We are the central contact point for doctoral candidates, post-docs as well as established researchers seeking information and support for further training, networking, and consulting.

Consultation and Networking

BYRD advises doctoral candidates on questions surrounding doctoral studies and processes. We support academic and personal exchange through various networking formats.

Consultation and Networking for Postdocs

BYRD also offers postdocs and advanced researchers advice on postdoctoral studies and career options both within as well as outside the scientific community. We inform about training measures and develop formats for networking.

Our BYRD Mixer is a great opportunity to connect with fellow doctoral researchers, especially for newcomers, and share experiences about PhD life in Bremen, all in a relaxed and friendly setting. The BYRD team will be there as well, happy to answer any questions you may have about pursuing your doctorate at the University of Bremen. Germans who want to meet their international fellows are also warmly welcome to join!

The jury has decided on this year's winners for the "Award for Outstanding Doctoral Supervision 2025" at the University of Bremen! The names will be revealed at the award ceromony taking place on July 2nd, 2025 at 5 p.m. at the Campus Space, Sparkasse Bremen. Join us to celebrate university professors for their ouststanding supervision and their professional and encouraging support of doctoral candidates. New: Courses for postdocs included

We have been cooperating with the Graduiertenakademie of Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg since 2016. Since then, doctoral candidates from Bremen have been able to take advantage of the courses offered by the Graduiertenakademie free of charge. On April 30, 2025, the cooperation agreement was renewed - from now on, postdocs from Bremen can also benefit from the workshops in Oldenburg!

And of course: Thanks to the cooperation agreement, doctoral candidates and postdocs at the University of Oldenburg can take part in all our BYRD offers free of charge. A warm welcome!
