Exams
The structure of a degree program, i.e., the standard course of study and all modules and examinations to be completed, is specified in the subject-specific examination regulations for that program. Each student in a degree program is enrolled in a subject-specific examination regulation. Since examination regulations are regularly revised as part of the ongoing development of the degree program, it may happen that two subject-specific examination regulations are active in parallel for a given degree program.
Therefore, please first carefully check which examination regulations you are studying under. You can find this information in the last paragraph of each regulation, "Scope and Entry into Force." The examination regulations applicable to you are also displayed in your PABO account.
The current versions of the examination regulations can be found in the Study Database in the section for your degree program.
All examination regulations can be found on the website of the Central Examination Office .
In Stud.IP, we have also uploaded the currently active examination regulations for the courses of the respective degree program under Files / Examination Regulations.
Appendix 1 of each subject-specific examination regulation contains the recommended standard course of study. This contains all modules that must be successfully completed in order to obtain a degree.
Appendix 2 of the subject-specific examination regulations contains a table overview of all modules to be completed and the corresponding module examinations. In some modules, more than one examination must be taken (partial examinations). The table in Appendix 2 of the BPO/MPO also describes the course of study in more detail.
The module handbook describes all modules and examinations in more detail. Please note that the format of an examination can change and is not necessarily the same every semester. However, the examination formats in the compulsory area of ??the bachelor's program are generally constant.
Ideally, especially for your bachelor's degree, you should follow the recommended standard course of study in Appendix 1 of the subject-specific examination regulations.
Although this is not binding, the teaching and examination planning is based on it, allowing for a seamless study within the standard period of study according to the standard course of study. The foundation modules should also be completed at the beginning of the program, as they are important for the advanced content.
Bachelor's students who begin their studies in the summer semester follow a slightly modified standard course of study, which is also designed for consistency and consistency. The course of study for the summer semester can be found in the module handbook and/or in the Study Database .
The exact dates for the exams for a semester can be found in the examination schedule, which is published on this website at the beginning of each semester.
Examinations for which you have registered but failed or missed due to non-attendance can be retaken in accordance with the information below (Retaking Examinations).
All legally binding regulations regarding registration and deregistration can be found in the General Sections of the Bachelor's and Master's Examination Regulations, which are published in the current version in the Study Database (linked as above) in the "Regulations" section for each degree program.
Registration via PABO is mandatory for examination participation. Except for elective examinations in the General Studies program, which are not stored in PABO and can be verified with a certificate of achievement.
For all other examinations, you must be registered for the examination to be allowed to take it.
IMPORTANT: The deadlines for registering and deregistering for exams will change starting in the winter semester 2025/26.
Exams during the regular examination period of the winter semester (February/March):
Registration: January 1st until one week before the exam date (see examination schedule)
Deregistration: up to one week before the exam date (see examination schedule)
Exams during the regular examination period of the summer semester (July/August):
Registration: June 1st until one week before the exam date (see examination schedule)
Deregistration: up to one week before the exam date (see examination schedule)
For exams for which no fixed date or period is specified in the examination schedule, for example, because they are held during the semester or in a non-scheduled format, the following applies:
Registration and deregistration in the winter semester: January 1st – 31st
Registration and deregistration in the summer semester: June 1st – 30th
From the beginning of each semester, you will find the examination schedules for that semester, including examination dates and registration and deregistration deadlines, here.
At the University of Bremen, you have a total of five consecutive semesters to pass an exam. The deadline begins with the first registration for an exam.
Example:
Winter semester 2025/26: First registration
(Failure or non-appearance)
Summer semester 2026: Second semester of the retake period
(No exam registration / exam registration + failure or non-appearance)
Winter semester 2026/27: Third semester of the retake period
(No exam registration / exam registration + failure or non-appearance)
Summer semester 2027: Fourth semester of the retake period
(No exam registration / exam registration + failure or non-appearance)
Winter semester 2027/28: Fifth and final semester of the retake period
(No exam registration / exam registration + failure or non-appearance = definitive failure)
Important: You must re-register for an exam each semester. Examination registration is only valid for the current semester. If you fail to register for an exam within the registration deadline, you cannot take the exam and the semester will be used up.
If you cannot take a registered exam due to illness, you must submit a sick note (form in Stud.IP under Files/Examination Office) and a medical certificate to the Decentralized Examination Office of the Department of Production Engineering no later than three days after the exam date. In this case, the note "Recognized withdrawal" will be entered in the PABO (Registered Examination Board), and the semester will not be counted toward the retake period.
Failure to Pass (ENB): If you fail to successfully complete an exam within the five-semester retake period, it is considered a failure to pass. The Examination Office will issue an ENB notice, and the student will be exmatriculated. Continuing your studies in this program will then no longer be possible.
