Description

The Psychological risk assessment at work places is not only required for employees and professors at universities (Occupational Safety Act), but also for students according to the accident prevention regulation of the DGUV (Regulation 1, Principles of Prevention).

University students are known to be a vulnerable group for mental health problems. Especially among students, high rates of depressive symptoms are shown, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the University of Bremen, a psychological risk assessment for employees has already taken place in 2018 but students psychological health and their stressors have not been assessed so far.

In Wintersemester 2025/2026, both the Psychological risk assessment for employees and students will be carried out at the University of Bremen. For this purpose, the known and validated instruments "Bielefeld Questionnaire on Working Conditions" (employees) and "Bielefeld Questionnaire on Study Conditions" (students) will be used. These questionnaires are based on the theoretical foundation of the social capital approach by Badura and have already been implemented at many universities. Employees and students will be asked about their study conditions, their health and their perceived needs for action. This allows for the identification of burdens and resources on campus and thus for the derivation of measures and interventions.
