Professors
Newly appointed female professors
Up-to-date information and specific offers for the accompaniment and support of newly appointed female professors should facilitate the "arrival" at the university.
With workshops, training, individual coaching and mentoring, new recruits will be supported in their new role as a professor. With the new role and the associated responsibility for an own research group as well as for tasks in teaching and study organization a high need for information and support is provided. With individual advice, coaching, information and networking, targeted training and support for new recruits in the University of Bremen should be implemented.
Individual counselling, coaching, information and networking will be used to provide targeted support and encouragement for newly appointed professors at the University of Bremen. The individually coordinated measures should offer opportunities for reflection, clarification of roles, individual learning as well as personal development. Specific measures of orientation and integration help promote and strengthen the understanding of one's own actions. It is also important to get to know informal networks and "rules of the game" at the university. With small group coaching, workshops and other, mostly very individualized formats, necessary competences should be strengthened and promoted.
Junior professors
For the junior professors, who, according to experience, face a particular challenge in the first years of their careers in order to find their roles and at the same time raise their academic profile, a special PE concept was initially developed (2003 - 2006) to accompany and support them with proven mentoring and coaching. Then the programme for newly appointed professors was developed, into which the junior professors were integrated from then on. Click here for the current offer for (newly appointed) professors.
With this PE initiative, the university management, rectorate and deans, have set a clear accent on active academic personnel management aimed at promotion through systematic support.
All professors
Based on the positive feedback from newly appointed professors and stimulated by an increasingly noticeable interest in interdisciplinary promotion and support from the personnel development department, the university has developed an integrated programme for all professors since 2009. Of course, for professors who have been working at the university for a longer period of time, the focus is no longer on "arriving" in their new role and at the university. Rather, it is the dynamically developing fields of work and research as well as the leading role of the female professors that justify further interdisciplinary support through coaching and other measures.
