Professors

The development of new specialist, teaching and research profiles as well as reforming of established structures and processes in universities are culminating in managing and moderation of complex fusion and restructuring processes. Professors have to be willing to participate actively in the development of quality and structure in research and teaching. Organisational competence for one's own field of work and the respective discipline as well as for the university as a whole and ultimately a clear understanding of one's role as an academic leader and motivation are necessary for this. The assumption of personal responsibility necessary for initiating, shaping and managing change processes at the university must be learnt in this context, as must leadership and management with objectives. The development of a corresponding understanding of roles, a value orientation in this respect and the identification with the "own" university are not self-evident, but require communication, networking and localization. Personnel development can meaningfully support and accompany these necessary processes of role clarification, competence development and "finding one’s way" into the university.

Personnel development assists the clarification of the professorial role and the assumption of new roles as an academic leader in the university with consulting, networking, further education, information, mentoring and coaching. Personnel development at the University of Bremen focuses on supporting and promoting academic leaders, newly appointed professors and junior researchers. More

PhD-Students, Post-Docs, Research Assistants

The interdisciplinary requirements placed on academic staff in the academic world are generally very similar to those placed on highly qualified specialists and management trainees in the business world. Proof of basic methodological knowledge and soft skills influences the chances of remaining in the academic field in the long term as well as future career opportunities outside the university.

With this in mind, the university has developed a comprehensive development programme for all academic staff, scholarship holders and private doctoral candidates at the university.
