The high-level international conference aimed at young researchers was organised by three academic research institutions (Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law Hamburg; Bucerius Law School; University of Hamburg) in Hamburg. 23 lectures were selected from 421 applications to present lectures in seven different sessions. The conference on "Sustainability Law: Comparative, Interdisciplinary, and Intradisciplinary Perspectives" followed an integrated approach on the sustainability of law and brought together research from different legal systems, disciplines and related fields of science. Different approaches in the sustainability discourse were presented from a comparative, interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary perspective.
Vincent-Carlos Barduhn is a research assistant at the Research Centre for European Environmental Law (Prof. Dr. Claudio Franzius) in the third-party funded project “Competence Network Future Challenges of Environmental Law”. At the conference, he presented his current research. Vincent is writing a doctoral thesis on sustainable urban mobility planning in Germany and Spain, applying comparative law as well as interdisciplinary approaches: mobility and traffic planning is defined as an “engineering-technical discipline” (Protze, K. 2014). Vincent’s presentation on "Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs): A German and Spanish comparative legal overview" provided an outline of SUMPs in Germany and Spain as well as the origin of SUMPs, their current problems and potential for improvement.
After the conference, the papers will be published open access by Nomos. The title of the paper in this publication will be identical to the title of the presentation.
