Online self-assessment in the admission process
What is an Online-Self-Assessment?
This is a compulsory, but ungraded online examination as part of the admission procedure for applicants. They receive a test-specific link to the online test platform from responsible faculty, which they can use to take the test directly after verifying their e-mail address. After completing the test, the applicants automatically receive a PDF protocol with a thematic evaluation, the percentage result and a specific code. This document or just the code must be submitted later with the application for a study place. The result has no influence on the chances of being awarded a study place, but is only intended to encourage reflection on the choice of study place.
The scenario is characterized by the fact that after the test has been set up, no further effort is required on the part of those responsible for the test or the ZMML.
The obligatory test prompts prospective students to take a closer look at the subject and their individual performance level before applying. Depending on the results, differentiated feedback can be given on subject aptitude and any existing deficits that would have to be made up for in the initial study phase. The aim is to reduce the dropout rate.
On the web pages of the student secretariat and an information page of the department, the information necessary for the test is provided (example mathematics self-assessment). This essentially includes a cryptic link that leads to the test in question in the online testing platform via anonymous direct access. After entering a valid e-mail address, an individual confirmation code is sent to this address. After entering this code, the applicants must first check off a declaration of consent, health and autonomy as having been read. They are then taken to a start screen where the test is selected. The test is preceded by a welcome text in which the test administrators provide important information about the procedure and conditions. After the time has elapsed or the test has been handed in, a PDF protocol with anonymized user ID, an application-specific activation code, a thematic evaluation and the percentage result can be downloaded directly from the testing system. It is possible to register and take the test several times. In case of a study place application (usually via the MOIN portal of the University of Bremen), the activation code from the PDF protocol must be entered (step-by-step instructions from the mathematics self-assessment).
Except for the e-mail address, no personal data is stored and the anonymous accounts are deleted after completion of the application process.

- If necessary, retrieval of statistical evaluations for further quality control of the task catalogs (item analysis, weak point analysis)
