Heritage languages and plurilingualism

The language policy pursued by the University of Bremen includes the promotion of plurillingualism. The SZHB supports this goal by offering courses for Kurdish, Polish, Russian and Turkish. These courses are designed for all students with a migrant background who want to refresh, consolidate and broaden their knowledge of the language they learned at home. The focus is primarily on productive skills: speaking and writing.

The courses in our Spoken academic and professional communication programme afford students the opportunity to practise the language skills they need to give presentations, present seminar projects and take part in discussions. The Written academic and professional communication courses teach them how to write both informal and formal texts and also cover grammar and orthography.

On successful completion of each course, students are awarded 3 Credit Points, which can count towards their General Studies component. Students at Bremen University are not required to pay the course fee.

English for specialist purposes (ESP)

English is the lingua franca in the academic world and thus a crucial element of your skills toolbox at university and for your professional career. The SZHB has created an Academic English programme with a number of different specialisations. The entry level for these courses is C1.1 and the target level is C1.2. And there's another bonus - all the courses are free!
