At the EALTA Conference in Belfast last June, Prof. Claudia Harsch gave a keynote address on the topic “Looking at the past, present and future of the CEFR beyond Europe - from the CEFR to a CGFR?”. The talk can now be viewed online.

On September 26th, the Instituto Cervantes and the Language Centre of the Universities in the Land of Bremen (SZHB) invite you to celebrate the European Day of Languages at the city library (Zentralbibliothek, Am Wall).
Starting at the end of July, we will be offering a French language café for the first time during the semester break. The language café is geared towards students and participation is free of charge.
Rooms needed for International Summer School participants
120 students from 20 countries will be attending the 4-week International Summer School at the Language Centre in Bremen from July 29th to August 23rd. Rooms are still needed for some participants.
Soon it will be that time again: our intensive courses are about to start! From July to September, the Language Center will be offering intensive courses in 10 languages. Thai is a new addition to the program. The tutoring program for independent language learning will also be taking place.
On Tuesday, June 11th, the SZHB, the AStA Bremerhaven and the Local Erasmus Initiative (ELI) of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences will be hosting a quiz about languages and countries. We look forward to welcoming lots of quiz participants!

During summer semester 2024, we are offering language cafés in 8 languages and many other additional language learning opportunities. Participation is free of charge for students.
On the occasion of French Language Day, language experts from the Institut Francais will be offering an afternoon of language activities and games at the city library (Zentralbibliothek) on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
The second lecture in our series on inclusive language is about the Filipino language Tagalog and its special features. The event will take place on Tuesday, the 16th of January 2024, at 18:00 in the City Library (in the Krimibibliothek section). Anyone interested is very welcome to attend!

Following the French, English and Spanish language day events, the Language Centre will be hosting an afternoon of interactive activites for the Arabic Lanugage Day on December 15th at the city library.
On the occasion of Spanish Language Day, the Instituto Cervantes is hosting an afternoon of language games and practical information, including a picture presentation, on October 12th in the central branch of the city library (Am Wall).
Courses in 21 languages in winter semester 2023/2024
Registration is open! This winter semester we are offering courses in 21 languages. They typically take place on a weekly basis and will commence the week of October 16th.
From August to October, the Language Centre will be offering intensive courses for 9 languages. Registration is open now. The tutoring programme for autonomous language learning will also take place during the break.
The OPEN CAMPUS will take place on June 23 and 24, 2023, and the Language Centre will be there offering a variety of activities. We look forward to seeing you!
Due to popular demand, an additional Portuguese course for beginners will commence on May 31, 2023 at the SZHB. The course will take place twice a week and registration is now open.
The Instituto Cervantes Bremen is organizing a series of lectures on inclusive language in cooperation with the Senator for Science and Ports, the Language Center of the Universities in the Land of Bremen, the Sprachenrat Bremen, the Goethe Institut and the Institut Fran?ais.
