Job description

Initially, the appointment is limited to four years (salary group 14 TV-L). The employment is regulated by the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract, §2 (1) (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered for appointment if they still have the respective qualification periods available in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG. The permanent position of a Senior Researcher (salary group 15 TV-L) can be assigned in case of proof of outstanding aptitude, performance and competence after successful completion of an evaluation. Research and scientific teaching are carried out independently within the framework of the Bremen Higher Education Act § 24 (2). The teaching responsibilities are four teaching hours per week per semester in the position as Researcher and nine teaching hours per week as Senior Researcher.

 

The position is intended to strengthen the university’s existing expertise in the area of FACT—Finance, Accounting, Control, Tax. The focus of the position is on research and teaching at the interface of financial market research, data science and investment behavior. This includes, for example, the analysis of extensive financial market and accounting data, research in asset pricing or data-based studies in managerial accounting. Methodologically, the position is oriented towards a quantitative research approach that incorporates modern econometric methods as well as approaches from the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence and data sciences. The focus of the position opens up a wide range of opportunities for collaboration—within the faculty (e.g. with the research areas in FACT or the markstones Institute in the area of data analysis) as well as within the university (e.g. with Faculty 3 and the Data Science Center in the area of data management and informatics or with Faculty 8, 9 and 11 in the areas of social interaction, social change, normative decision research, decision behavior). Overall, the position offers promising development prospects, in particular the opportunity to develop an independent profile in the field of finance. We are looking for an early-career researcher with the following profile:

 

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • You independently address research questions in the area of finance at the interface of financial market research, data science and investment behavior that lead to high-level publications in relevant journals.
  • You independently teach in the area of finance in the faculty’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
  • You participate in the expansion of study programs of the faculty, particularly by designing and offering modules in the specialization areas of finance, accounting, and taxation within the new Bachelor's program in Business Administration (BPO 2023).
  • You will be responsible for supervising and advising students, providing academic guidance and support throughout their studies.
  • You participate in the supervision of PhD students (also within the faculty’s Diginomics Graduate Group),
  • You raise competitive third-party funds.
  • You participate in the academic self-government.

Requirements

Your qualifications (recruitment requirements):

  • University degree (diploma, master) in Business Studies or equivalent disciplines
  • Excellent and pertinent doctoral dissertation recently published with a focus on this call
  • First publications in the fields of this call in renowned international journals and promising research projects
  • Relevant teaching experience at university level, including innovative teaching approaches
  • Very good English and German Language Skills (fluently spoken and written)

 

Further are desirable:

  • Initial experience in acquiring research-oriented third-party funding
  • International experience and a scientific network to utilize for research and teaching within the faculty
