Early State Researcher (f/m/d)
Salary Scale 13 TV-L
starting on September 1st, 2025
to be filled with a weekly working time of 50% (19.6 hours) limited until September 30th, 2028 with the aim of obtaining a doctorate.
The employment is regulated by the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act, §2 (1) (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered for appointment if they still have the respective qualification periods available in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG.
Job description
The research of the group ”Allgemeine Psychologie” focuses on understanding cognitive decision processes. Specifically, we investigate how people search for information when making decisions (in the environment or in memory), the cognitive strategies they use to make a decision as well as how decision-making changes over the life span. The methodology involves behavioral experiments, computational modeling, and eye tracking. Other techniques will be available at the Department of Psychology.
Job description
The successful candidate will support the research projects of the “Allgemeine Psychologie” group and teach courses within the degree programs of the Department of Psychology. The position offers the opportunity to develop and carry out your own research project and pursue a PhD. Your duties
- Scientific services in teaching to the extent of 3 SWS (including the teaching of specialist knowledge and practical skills as well as instruction in the application of scientific methods in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes to the extent of the applicable LVNV, teaching export (= subject-specific teaching for other teaching units)),
- Scientific services in research, collaboration in research projects
- If applicable, own academic work, e.g. preparation of a doctorate
- The post holder (f/m/d) should carry out his/her academic qualification, in particular the preparation of a dissertation, as part of the project.
- Other university tasks, e.g. participation in academic self-administration
Requirements
- Very good academic degree (university diploma/ M.Sc.) in psychology or a related topic (e.g., cognitive science, behavioral economics)
- Applicants who are in the final phase of their Master's degree programme will also be considered. Please note that the submission of a Master's degree certificate is mandatory for employment.
- Strong interest in decision psychology
- Excellent methodological knowledge, experience with statistical software, and knowledge (or interest in learning) programming languages (e.g., R).
- Excellent proficiency in English
- Experience or interest in cognitive modeling and/or eye tracking and analysis of gaze data
- Proficiency in German is helpful with respect to teaching duties
