Salary Group EG 13 TV-L
with 100% of regular weekly working hours (39.2 hours per week)
limited for 26 months but until 31 March 2028 at the latest (according to § 2 WissZeitVG)
starting 1 October 2025, subject to the approval of funds.

Part-time work is generally possible. Details may need to be agreed upon with MARUM.


Job description

As part of the project "Barite-bearing cold seeps on the seafloor of the San Clemente Basin (California, Mexico) and their significance for fluid circulation along transform faults," which is funded by a federal grant, the University of Bremen is seeking to fill a position with marine geoscientific expertise starting October 1, 2025. We are seeking a geoscientist with marine geological expertise to work on various tasks that will be carried out as part of the RV SONNE expedition SO318 in February/March 2026 in the area of the Californian borderland (USA and Mexico).

Specific tasks include: 

  • Participation in research cruise SO318 (February 22 – March 26, 2026, San Diego) and collection of new data within the framework of the project and their publication as peer-reviewed scientific articles. 
  • Supporting the chief scientist in the scientific and logistical work for the preparation, implementation, and follow-up of the expedition (e.g., preparation of the cruise report, interim reports to the BMFTR)
  • Collaboration in the analysis of bathymetry, AUV micro-bathymetry, Parasound, and ROV dive data.
  • Supervision of student assistants in the analysis work

Requirements

  • Completed scientific university degree (Master's/University Diploma) and doctorate in geosciences 
  • Willingness to participate in multi-week scientific expeditions
  • Solid knowledge in the processing, analysis, and interpretation of geological and geophysical data, and competence in scientific writing
  • Experience in the use of various software, e.g., GIS
  • Experience in marine geosciences and proven participation in ship expeditions are beneficial
  •  Ability to work in a team, social skills, and enjoyment of international, interdisciplinary collaboration
