The guests from Groningen included University President Professor Jouke de Vries as well as deans and researchers from various faculties. Together with President Professor Jutta Günther, Dr. Mandy Boehnke, Vice President for International Affairs, Academic Qualification, and Diversity, as well as deans, researchers, and staff from the International Office, they exchanged ideas about further opportunities for cooperation.
At the University of Bremen, the delegation visited the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM), where they also learned about the University of Bremen's new Cluster of Excellence, “The Martian Mindset.” In the evening, the delegation went on to attend the University of Bremen's New Year's Reception, where Jouke de Vries joined other university leaders on the stage to discuss the topic of “Science in Transition."
The University of Bremen and the University of Groningen have enjoyed a decades-long partnership. In January 2025, the Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg founded the Northwest Alliance, with the University of Groningen as a privileged partner.
