Für die Aufnahme in einen Masterstudiengang ist der Abschluss eines Studiums auf Bachelor-Niveau Voraussetzung. Die fachspezifischen Zugangsvoraussetzungen sind in der aktuellen Aufnahme-/Zulassungsordnung (s. u.) geregelt. Darin enthalten sind auch die unterschiedlichen Fristen für die Nachweiserbringung.

The programme is offered in two variants. The standard period of study in the variant "MScPT I" is three semesters with a workload of 90 ECTS credits. This can be chosen if 210 ECTS credits have been earned in the first course of study (Master's entrance qualification), for example in the Bachelor's programme Production Engineering - Mechanical & Process Engineering - at the University of Bremen.
It is also possible to apply for admission to this programme with a first degree with a standard period of study of six semesters (180 ECTS credits). For this purpose, the variant "MScPT II" has to be chosen in the application. Here the standard duration of study is four semesters with 120 ECTS credits.

The 27 speciality fields encompassed by the Faculty of Production Engineering together with its associated research institutes ensure a wide spectrum of challenging course offers. With regard to teaching, the speciality fields are combined according to areas of specialisation as follows:

Aeronautical Engineering ("LT"),
Energy systems ("ES"),
Industrial Engineering ("IM"),
Materials science ("MW"),
Mechanical Engineering (general mechanical engineering, "AM"),
Process Engineering ("VT"),
Production Engineering (technologies, machinery and process evaluation, "FT").

Students have to choose their area of specialisation with the application.

The career opportunities open to graduates of this Bachelor programme depend to a great extent on the area programme they have chosen and the degree of specialisation in any of the important functional areas of industrial production. This applies equally to component production as well as to assembly and materials production. Central fields of activity include organisation and industrial management, as well as production management. But also the functional areas upstream and downstream of production present graduates with interesting fields of employment: these include development, product design, production planning and control, servicing and maintenance, as well as distribution. The aforementioned fields of activity are to be found in a number of different branches: for example, mechanical and unit construction engineering, the automobile industry, space and aviation, general and luxury food industries, the steel industry, inspection organisations and research institutes.
